Sacred Landscapes: Honoring Native American Heritage
“To the Native Americans, everything has a spirit–humans, animals, plants, rocks, the earth. Therefore, places–such as Zion Canyon–that embrace many of these elements in a particularly stunning setting are to be reverenced and preserved.”
Zion – You’ll Remember Me
Gary Tom (former tribal chief of the Kaibab band of Paiute Indians) and Cherie Call (prolific and much-awarded singer/songwriter) collaborated on a song about Zion Canyon. The result was magical.
Melissa Hinton (Navajo) recorded the lead vocal on the song and then interpreted the song and the spirit of the canyon as we rolled our video cameras. More magic was the result.
